In the new technological era that we live in, video podcasts, YouTube videos, and shameless self promotional videos are becoming much more eminent and more popular on the web. With that in mind and being that I still have my employee discount at BestBuy I thought to myself how it would be a great idea to go down to our local BestBuy in Aiea, HI to select and purchase a new Video Camcorder that I have always wanted! but really had no use for.. (I still have no real use for one)
However, I did look online via (their online store of things you can find online but never in the store), beforehand at the different varieties and selections that BestBuy had to offer before I drove down there and I found that some of the key things in my mind on buying a Video Camcorder were price, size, and functionality. I didn’t want to spend a rediculous amount of money on a new toy that wouldn’t get much play time, I also didn’t want a big and bulky camcorder that I would have to lug around (gotta be ninja quick!), and I didn’t want one that would become outdated or break within a few months.
So with that in mind off I went to BestBuy! and when I got there, sad to say their weren’t many selections and off the top of my head the brands that I could remember that were on display were: Sony, JVC, Flip Mino, and Panasonic. After a few minuites of toying with the camcorders that they had displayed I decided to ask someone who was a subject matter expert in that area and I came across a guy named Rocky. The first question that I had asked him was on return rates and being that I am still employed there I knew that would be the best question to ask. He also gave me the lowdown on the new items, their features, the differences between HD camcorders, HDD vs card camcorders, etc. To make a long story short I had gone back to the tiny JVC 80 gig HDD, HD camera that had caught my eye because of its small size, design, and black onyx color. I also liked how this camera in particular even thought it cost $478.00 USD had a much better digital stabilization then some of the other cameras. I could really tell how quickly it was to focus in and out of whatever you were trying to shoot at versus some of the other cameras which had a hard time or took longer to clear up after you were zoomed it.
Other items purchased:
$30 – camera bag, (which is too big for the camera, and got complimented how it looks like a purse)
$100 – 4 year Warranty
Over all JVC Everio G-series GZ-MG670 camera gets an 8/10
+The Good
_ Small and versatile, very easy to hold.
_ Image Stabilization is very quick to render when zooming in / zooming out. (or while driving with one hand)
_ Power on / system standby / startup time is super quick! (for recording something on the fly, just flip the screen out BAM! good to go!)
_ Sound quality is excellent on playback, also includes a feature for “Wind Reduction”
_ 80 Gigs of Hard Drive space, very easy to remove media from the cam to your comp.
_ Sleek and visually appealing, comes in 3 colors: onyx black, red, and silver.
+The Bad.
_ Small, fits nicely into the palm of your hand, but sad to say I will probably end up sitting on it or losing it because its so small!
_ Small LED light in the front, you need to go through the menu to turn the light on, their is no button to quickly turn it on at night.
_ No, picture optimization “Night Vision” for night time use other than the single bright LED up front. (Night time video is not so great)
_ Nice glossy finish of the camera and chrome trim where you hold it gets a little bit of oil from your hand with each use and it becomes noticable, (kinda like face on iphone)
Overall rating: 8/10!
